Colorado Swimbaits

Colorado Swimbaits

I started fishing tournaments back in 2003 on the FLW Stren series western division as a co angler and we would fish Clear Lake in April.  This is were I learned all about Swim baits and their potential. I never really learned what it took to catch em during those tournaments but I had a burning desire to figure it out.

I fish a local reservoir here in Colorado that has Smallmouth, Largemouth, and Spots but finding a keeper (15″) can be hard at times. This was the other reason I was determined to learn the art of the swim bait, Big Fish – Big Bait. We had a local team tournament in April and I went out to pre-fish 2 days before. Thats when I made the decision to try the new 6″ trout, and that day was the start of the end for me.  I caught 15 spots that day and the best five would of went 16 lbs.  Now that’s not saying much on some lakes, but for this lake 8lbs would win most tournaments.  We went on to win that tournament and we keep the bait a secret for a while.  The biggest misconception about the Huddleston swim baits is the size of fish you can catch on em, I’ve caught 13″ Smallmouths on the 6″ trout!, And most of the 15″ Spots have no problem choking it down.  The Colorado state record Smallmouth and Spotted Bass will fall to a Huddleston, I guarantee it.
